for Cory Aquino
A line of sacred ibises beats
silently against the blue chill
of dawn. How certain they are,
eastward, though darkness grips
their beaks. Not for themselves,
they bring together land and sky.
Their journey is everything and nothing.

Jim, I so love your style of writing. I’m not real familiar with ibises, but I am sure they are beautiful in flight.

Missy,
The wikipedia entry on the sacred ibis does not capture how they fly. But here it is anyway: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sacred_Ibis
Thank you for reading this.
